For in situ at SFMOMA, a l m’s third project with Chef Corey Lee, we envisioned an identity concept that would express Lee’s desire to break with the reigning paradigm for museum cafés and restaurants, and offer instead an à la carte menu appealing to loyal locals as well as visitors passing through. With an eye to map-making, a l m adopted the Mercator projection of the world demarcated into international time zones, but slightly disturbed by an axial tilt – a dislocation that hints at the shift from a recipe’s origins to its new situation at in situ. Opening June 2016.

The restoration project that brings an energized palette and expanded footprint to a 1950’s William Cody residence is underway in Indian Wells, California. Without altering the existing roof plane, the expanded livable space swells under the luxury of broad overhangs. A new studio addition infuses a contemporary spirit into the historic ensemble. Ongoing.

Bonbonnière

The ‘lette boîte carrée, inspired by the classic bonbonnière, is three boxes in one. With its minimal aesthetic, the boîte carrée acts as a white canvas with infinite potential for customization. Offering a choice of 3 custom inserts – snow crystal, heart and field – and more patterns planned in the future, the boîte carrée maximizes the potential of ‘lette’s vivid color palette and presents a unique and open-ended opportunity for imagination and surprise.

In the Works

As Chobani ventures to take the café concept around town, our collaboration expands to include the design of the first Chobani X Target café in TriBeCa – and stay tuned for a second Chobani SoHo expansion. Heartwork founder Karen John and Andrea took a trip to Milano during Salone on the mission to rethink how we live, love, and work. Construction has begun on a l m’s latest project with Sprinkles founders Charles and Candace Nelson, working in conjunction with celebrated pizza chef Daniele Uditi of Naples, Italy – slated to open later this year in Brentwood, California. New client Bloch has engaged a l m to create the experience around their new dance-inspired fitness endeavor and launch their first US-based Bloch dance retail space in NYC.

In the Media

Look for an article featuring Sam Medina’s review of a l m’s practice in the May issue of Metropolis Magazine, and a forthcoming documentary film about the making of In Situ featuring our Los Angeles studio.
