Designed in collaboration with Peter Noever, a l m’s ‘take’ on the traditional Viennese house wine glass was produced by Stölzle, Germany – one for red and one for white – and presented with Austrian vintages selected by Astor Wines and bread by Ole and Steen. All proceeds from sales of the glass during the event were donated to World Central Kitchen.

Rated by Jonathan Gold one of the best pizzas outside of Italy, PIZZANA opened its first restaurant in Brentwood late spring. Continuing our decade-long collaboration with Sprinkles founders Charles and Candace Nelson, who partnered with native Neapolitan chef Daniele Uditi, we took inspiration from the rugged beauty of the Gulf of Naples and the energy of Italian Futurism. Transposed into the context of Los Angeles, our design concept transforms a mundane storefront into a multi-layered space activated by an interplay of compressed and soaring ceilings.

Named America’s Most Original New Restaurant by The New York Times, our latest collaboration with chef Corey LEE In Situ opened at the SFMOMA in June.
With an eye to map-making, we adopted the Mercator projection of the world demarcated into international time zones, but slightly disturbed by an axial tilt – a dislocation that hints at the shift from a recipe’s origins to its new situation at In Situ. This tilt plays out in each design element in various media and materials, from logo to menu, an In Situ plate produced by Rosenthal, wait-staff apparel, environmental signage, library shelving, ephemera, and the website.

For in situ at SFMOMA, a l m’s third project with Chef Corey Lee, we envisioned an identity concept that would express Lee’s desire to break with the reigning paradigm for museum cafés and restaurants, and offer instead an à la carte menu appealing to loyal locals as well as visitors passing through. With an eye to map-making, a l m adopted the Mercator projection of the world demarcated into international time zones, but slightly disturbed by an axial tilt – a dislocation that hints at the shift from a recipe’s origins to its new situation at in situ. Opening June 2016.
The restoration project that brings an energized palette and expanded footprint to a 1950’s William Cody residence is underway in Indian Wells, California. Without altering the existing roof plane, the expanded livable space swells under the luxury of broad overhangs. A new studio addition infuses a contemporary spirit into the historic ensemble. Ongoing.
The ‘lette boîte carrée, inspired by the classic bonbonnière, is three boxes in one. With its minimal aesthetic, the boîte carrée acts as a white canvas with infinite potential for customization. Offering a choice of 3 custom inserts – snow crystal, heart and field – and more patterns planned in the future, the boîte carrée maximizes the potential of ‘lette’s vivid color palette and presents a unique and open-ended opportunity for imagination and surprise.
